Nashville illustrator Daryl Stevens
Nashville illustrator Daryl Stevens working with TBWA\CHIAT\DAY created illustrations for Sony Interactive to promote the launch of their Playstation 2 Ape Escape 3 video game. The project included creating a landing page map illustration and several parodies of fine art for the Museum of Monkey Art (MOMA).
Planning an end-of-summer escape? Consider MonkeyTown, if you’re of the simian persuasion. The online destination created by agency Tequila to promote the PlayStation 2 video game Ape Escape 3 is a veritable primate paradise that can be explored through an interactive visitors map. Must-see attractions include the Museum of Monkey Art (home to monkey-ized versions of famous paintings and sculptures, like “Venus de Monkey”), the Pampered Primate Spa (a customizing tool that lets you makeover a monkey), and Simian Cinemas (an editing feature that lets you splice your own monkey-themed movie trailer).
Ape Escape: MonkeyTown
MonkeyTown is a city gone bananas. The site was developed as a unique way to differentiate the title’s storyline from previous games in the Ape Escape franchise. To convey the culturally referential humor and playful nature of monkeys who are trying to take over the world, we chose to show what life would be like if they succeeded. Monkeytown uses an interactive tourist’s map to help visitors explore our fictitious town. The site’s main goal was to encourage gamers to contribute their own content to the site so they would have a vested interest in the experience. To do this, we had several sections where users could create their own monkey-themed content and post them to galleries and send to friends
The city’s top attraction is the Simian Cinema, a oneofakind movie theatre where you can direct your own Wild West movie trailer starring real life chimps! Hop in the director’s chair as you select hilarious movie clips to shape how the action unfolds. Users can add a funny voice over, choose their favorite Western soundtrack and of course, email their creation to all their friends. It’s a barrel of fun.
